Winter moose - Algonquin Provincial Park
I'm up shooting in Algonquin Provincial Park for a couple of days. My targets were winter birds and landscapes, but the unexpected surprise of the day was a pair of bull moose on a frozen lake just before dusk. I stood in awe of the scene, then frantically flipped between lenses to capture the unique situation. I've never had luck with moose in winter before, let alone two of them out in the open! Tipping a glass of wine back now after a hell of a great day!
Techs: Canon EOS 5D mk II, 500/4IS lens.
Great pictures. These are awsome, I would like to see something like that someday.
ReplyDeleteStunning, they almost don't look real against the snow. Great shots Ethan. It must have been a wonderful experience to watch them.
ReplyDeleteOn what lake did they appear, if you don't mind telling? Thanks in Advance!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Not sure what the name of the lake is, or for that matter if there's any predictability regarding locations in winter... but it was a small lake on the north side of Hwy 60, a few minutes drive west of the Park Visitor Center.
ReplyDeleteExcellent capture Ethan. Very unique.
ReplyDeletelooks fake to me
ReplyDeleteIt's a pretty surreal image, which is why it has impact... but I can assure you that it's not a fake. It's a moose on a clean, snow-covered lake without as much as a track on it. I exposed for the moose, which blew out the whites.... giving it a clean studio look. The light was soft and the snow acted as a reflector to bring out the details on the moose.
ReplyDeleteI love the Moose pictures, but what about the birds? What did you see?
ReplyDeletefabulous images Ethan

Very unique and different Ethan. These are terrific. What a great situation to find these two in. You must have had a very large white drop cloth. :-)
